Upon the waiver signed that is sent to you before the appointment time by email, you are consenting despite following the care tips that you can still experience minor irritation, infection, slight bleeding, skin lifting, bruising, minor cuts and possible burns.
Pre-Wax Care Tips (Before the appointment)
1) If you shaved and/or trimmed shorter than ¼ inch (length of regular rice grain), you must wait at least 2 weeks for all hair to grow back before booking your next appointment. If you still decide to come to the appointment with shaved and under ¼” of hair length, we might need to cancel/reschedule the appointment (this will result in charging the remaining balance of the appointment due to not respecting ideal hair length to proceed with appointment and for loss to not be able to fill the spot). Keep in mind, should you proceed with the appointment despite of shorter hair, the results will appear patchy.
2) Do not exfoliate on the day of the appointment and 24 hours after. Do not use any active ingredients 24-48 hours before the appointment on the areas to be waxed. Ex) sugar/salt scrub, chemical exfoliant, accutane, differin, Retin A/Retinol, glycolic acid/AHA's, ProActive, Avita, Benzoyl peroxide, Salicylic acid/ BHA's. If your skin takes time to recover after any kind of skin reaction, please refrain from using at least 36 hours to a week in advance.
3) Do not take a hot shower/bath at least 1-2 hours before the appointment. Rule of Thumb: you want the skin to be able to recover and regain natural oil and suppleness that has been stripped away from hot water. If you come in with tight and dry skin, you can experience skin lifting and skin irritation during the session. If you must shower/bathe, the temperature should be cold or lukewarm.
4) Do not apply products containing fragrance and non-scented ingredients (lotion, body soap, oil, etc.). Any unnecessary chemicals applied to the parts to be waxed should be product free to prevent risk of personal products working against the products and waxing used at L.F Waxing.
5) Do not apply any kind of topical numbing agent onto the skin before the appointment. If you do, we might have to reschedule as the skin may not be suited to wax. If you wish to still proceed to come with numbing cream already applied, let us know immediately.
6) Do not apply makeup if the face is getting waxed. Light sunscreen and moisturizer are acceptable.
7) If your skin is cracked, broken and/or raw - waxing will need to wait until it is healed. If you wish to still proceed despite the current condition of your skin, we will have to avoid the damaged skin areas but the areas of the wax will be patchy.
8) If you have low tolerance to pain and/or are new to waxing, you can take 1 or 2 painkillers about 30 minutes before the appointment time.
9) It is recommended to wear loose clothing so that the skin has room to breathe and does not stick as much onto the clothes after the appointment. Less friction and tightness of clothing can help avoid irritation. Generally, you want the skin to not build too much humidity to avoid ingrown hair and heat/sweat rash during the 12-24 hours post wax.
10) It is recommended to exfoliate the skin about 24 hours in advance to remove any excess or build up dead skin cells. Exfoliation helps prevent ingrown hair and dry skin build up and to ensure that the hair is successfully waxed.
11) If you get your period before the appointment and still wish to proceed with the appointment, please ensure to cleanse the area properly and to wear a tampon/menstrual cup. If you are uncomfortable to wear the tampon or a menstrual cup, it might best to wait until your period is over.
12) It is recommended to not drink/consume anything that contains cannabis, caffeine and alcohol on the day of or before the appointment. If you are too tired or still recovering from post-consumption, it is best to reschedule. If you still wish to proceed with the appointment, your pain tolerance might be lower.
13) It is recommended to bring a fresh pair of underwear so that the skin remains clean and uncontaminated after the session and has a good head start to heal.
Post-Wax Care Tips (After the appointment)
1) It is recommended to not take a hot shower/bath. Taking a hot shower/bath will open up the pores causing to clog and allowing bacteria to enter the freshly waxed skin. It would be best to wait 24 hours, if not - please ensure that the shower or bath is only with lukewarm or cold water.
2) It is recommended to not engage in any sexual activity that will lead and cause the skin to be prone to irritation, infection and rash. Wait at least 24 hours.
3) It is recommended to refrain from touching the freshly waxed area(s) often. If you must, make sure your hands are clean.
4) It is recommended to wait at least 24-48 hours before you can resume to use face and body products that contains active ingredients and fragrance/non-scented agents.
5) If you wish to regularly include waxing as your main method of hair care, refrain from shaving in between waxing appointments.
6) It is recommended to exfoliate (using a sugar or salt scrub with a manual exfoliation tool, ex) exfoliation gloves, loofah, brush, japanese body towel) your body at least twice a week and moisturize so that skin is always wax-ready upon the next appointment.
7) If you wish to wax regularly, it is best to consistently come every 4-6 weeks (each person may vary). Overtime, the hair and skin will continue to build better pain tolerance and could lead to thinner, softer, weaker hair and manageable to wax. Average time to wax at a time is between 4-6 weeks or ¼” long whichever comes first. If you are not certain, send a picture of the hair length before booking.
8) It is recommended to stay out of direct sun exposure for at least 24 hours. This includes artificial tanning as well.
9) It is recommended to wait at least 24 hours from any physical activity that will cause excessive sweating. Ex) going to the gym, sauna etc.
10) If you are experiencing itchiness and dryness, apply hydrocortisone cream or an anti-inflammatory topical cream/gel of your choice. You can top it off putting an ice pack but be sure to have it wrapped in a clotch to avoid frost nips.
